Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially announced its pre-Hajj operation for 2025, marking the beginning of a significant travel initiative for thousands of Pakistani pilgrims heading to Saudi Arabia. The national carrier is set to begin its special Hajj flights on April 29, with the operation continuing until June 1.
This year’s pre-Hajj flight plan includes 280 dedicated flights that aim to transport more than 56,000 pilgrims. Among these, approximately 20,000 individuals will be traveling under the government’s official Hajj scheme, while the remaining 36,000 are expected to journey through the private Hajj program. Both Boeing 777 and Airbus A320 aircraft will be deployed to ensure that all passengers have a safe, efficient, and comfortable travel experience.
In an effort to streamline the return process, PIA’s post-Hajj operation is scheduled to commence on June 12 and will run through July 10. Special flight schedules have been prepared to manage the large volume of returning pilgrims, with coordination efforts focused on punctuality and passenger convenience.

PIA officials have emphasized that this year’s Hajj operation includes several improvements. From onboard facilities to airport assistance, a wide range of services have been put in place to make the pilgrimage hassle-free. Authorities have assured that all flights will be monitored closely and supported by a well-organized team on the ground.
Meanwhile, controversy looms as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently intervened after concerns emerged over a reduction in the private Hajj quota. Thousands of applicants were reportedly left without options due to administrative shortcomings. The PM has since launched an investigation, forming a three-member committee to identify those responsible for the lapse within three days.
As the preparations gain momentum, PIA’s 2025 Hajj operation stands as a critical step in facilitating the spiritual journey of thousands, with a strong focus on coordination, safety, and passenger care.
