New US Rule: Foreigners Must Register Within 30 Days or Face Penalties

The United States has introduced a strict new rule for all foreigners living in the country. As of now, anyone who stays in the US for more than 30 days must register with the federal government. This rule is creating serious concern among foreign nationals, especially students, workers, and families who are staying legally in the country.

This directive was officially announced by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. She made it clear that failing to register within the 30-day period can lead to severe consequences. These include heavy fines, arrest, deportation, and a permanent ban from entering the US again.

According to the press secretary, “All foreign nationals present in the United States longer than 30 days must register with the federal government. Failure to comply is a crime punishable by fines, imprisonment, or both.”

What’s surprising to many is that this rule is not entirely new. It is actually based on a very old law that dates back to World War 2. However, it was rarely enforced until now. A judge appointed during Trump’s presidency recently gave the green light to the government to start implementing this rule actively.

This change is part of a larger effort by the Trump administration to tighten immigration policies. In recent weeks, several orders have been issued that affect even legal immigrants. Although President Trump is no longer in office, many of the policies introduced during his time are still in effect or being revived.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has also released a detailed guideline about this registration law. According to their clarification, all foreigners who arrive in the United States on or after April 11 must register within 30 days—especially if they don’t already have any official registration documents.

One area of concern is for children. Even minors who turn 14 are required to register or re-register. They must also submit their fingerprints within 30 days of their birthday, even if they had already been registered earlier.

Many foreigners already living in the US are now confused and stressed. News reports suggest that people must carry proof of their legal status at all times. This has created a lot of fear and uncertainty among immigrants who are otherwise following all laws.

The new rule has also caused panic among international students. Many came to the US with the hope of building a bright future, but now they fear their visas might be canceled. In fact, the Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned recently that over 300 visas have already been revoked—including student visas.

So far, no official list of affected people has been released. But the fact that the government has already started canceling visas shows that the authorities are taking the rule very seriously.

For those living in Pakistan or any other country and planning to visit or stay in the US, this is a very important update. If you are staying for more than 30 days in the US, make sure to register with the government as soon as possible. Otherwise, you could be putting yourself at serious risk.

This rule highlights the importance of staying updated with immigration policies, especially when you are living in another country. Always keep your documents in order, follow the rules, and register on time to avoid legal issues.
